Thank You, on behalf of AEL's students and families

Dear AEL Community,

This summer brings many smiles to my face as I reflect on the tremendous school year we just had. This past June, we celebrated the close of the 2018-19 school year with 48 of our seniors walked across the stage to earn their high school diplomas. We just have a handful of seniors finishing up some coursework or working hard to pass their remaining Regents exams so that they will be able to graduate in August. I would like to thank the hard working staff of AEL for all that they did throughout the school year to ensure the continued academic, social and emotional growth and development of every one of our students. I appreciate the time that you took from your free periods and the time that you committed either before or after school to be there for your students to offer additional academic or emotional support. Our parents and students are truly blessed to have you in their lives and we are blessed to have you on our team.

I also want to thank all of you who supported the work that our teachers do day in and day out for our students. A big thank you goes to our Guidance Counselors, our Speech teacher, our School Based Support Team, our Attendance Teacher, our Main Office staff, our Parent Coordinator and the parents who serve on our PTA Executive Board, the parents, students and teachers who serve on our School Leadership Team, my amazing assistant principals, our wonderful Campus Manager, Level III and the School Safety team, the Cafeteria Staff, our Custodial Engineer and his team, our lead CBO (Make the Road NY, Inc.), Superintendent Ross and her amazing team of leaders, and all of the other community based agencies and DOE supports who partnered with us throughout the school year on behalf of our students, teachers and families. Also, I do not want to be remiss in thanking my wonderful colleagues who share the Bushwick High School Campus with AEL: Dr. Perry Rainey, Principal of the Brooklyn School for Math and Research (BSMaRt), Ms Ana Marsh, Principal of the Brooklyn School for Social Justice (BSSJ) and Mr. Jorge Sandoval, Principal of the Academy of Urban Planning and Engineering (AUPE). We have a phenomenal working relationship for which I am truly grateful and appreciative. You are an awesome and dedicated group of professionals with whom I have the pleasure of knowing.

I am looking forward to wrapping up the 2018-2019 school year strong this summer with those youngsters of ours who are putting in the extra time and effort it is taking them to earn their credits and pass their exams in August. This September, we will be returning as the Academy for Excellence in Leadership. We are still AEL, but we will have one theme and one dream - which is for every student to graduate both career and college-ready in their senior year (or sooner, depending on the student).

Until then, rest up everyone and enjoy much rest and relaxation with friends and family during these lazy, hazy days of summer!

All my best,

ChántAndréa Blissett

Welcome to the Spring Term!

Welcome back students and staff from Winter Recess! We trust that you had an enjoyable break and that you have returned to school refreshed, relaxed, renewed, re-energized and ready to go! Students, we want you to focus on having a strong spring semester by making sure that you are attending every one of your classes. Arrive to school in time for your first period class every day and make sure that you are on time to every period throughout the day. Make sure that you arrange to meet with the teachers of any of your classes where you might need a little extra help. Some of our teachers make it a point to work with their students at least one day a week during 5th period. Also, we have after school ELA Regents prep classes taught by Ms Popo and Ms Gammon, and Mr. Houston teaches an ENL Enrichment class. Just go to room 410 on Wednesdays. Then, Mrs. Jordan-Hall and Ms Barre offer after school help in math on Thursdays. Just go to room 433! Additionally, there might still be a slot or two open if you want to learn how to swim. Mr. Wolf if teaching a swimming class every Thursday during the spring semester. Just ask Mr. Wolf, Ms Baptiste or Mr. Knox about the class.

Remember, at AEL, we encourage you to take responsibility for your own learning by becoming more self-reliant and resilient learners. Our mission is to equip you to become leaders in excellence in order to prepare you for success in college and in your career endeavors. However, it is all starts with you making the right choices one decision at a time!

Welcome Parents to AEL

Tonight, the Academy for Environmental Leadership (AEL) proudly welcomes our parents and families to meet their child's teachers, Guidance Counselor, and our Parent Coordinator, along with other essential staff members, during Parent Teacher Night. We look forward to this opportunity every fall because it give us the chance to discuss how your child is progressing in school and also to learn from you how we can serve you and your child better. We will start to welcome families as early at 5:00 PM. Our evening ends at 8:00 PM. However, if you are unable to visit us tonight, you are welcome to visit us tomorrow, from 12:30 - 2:30 PM, for Parent Teacher Afternoon. We are located on the 4th floor of the Bushwick High School Campus.

While you are visiting us, we encourage you to take a look at the student work that we have posted on the bulletin boards of our hallways and within our classrooms. We are very pleased with the work that our teachers do with your children, and we always look for opportunities to brag about our young environmental leaders. Also, please feel free to stop by my office (room 421B) to say hello or the offices of our assistant principals. Mrs. Katz's office is in room 403 and Mr. Newville's office is room 423.

Please know I appreciate each and every one of our parents. Your willingness to partner with us as we do this very important work of educating your children is priceless. You are your child's first teacher and we simply could not do this without you.

I look forward to seeing you this evening or tomorrow afternoon!

All my best,

Mrs. Blissett
