PEER GROUP CONNECTIONS:

Every ninth grader will be assigned 2 upperclassmen Peer Leaders who will be their advocates for the entire year. Peer Group Connections (PGC) offers each freshman a variety of lessons to foster a caring community, acceptance and responsibility. Some of the objectives of PGC are:

 

  1. Establish community norms that will foster bonding and commitment.
  2. Provide opportunities to cope with academic concerns; find solutions and create academic goals.
  1. Learn and discover yourself and promote acceptance of differences.
  2. Develop positive relationships through experiences that utilize group dynamics.
  3. Promote critical thinking skills through discussion and problem solving activities.
  4. Develop listening skills and develop strategies to foster effective communication skills.
  5. Build self-esteem and confidence so as to accept responsibility for your actions.
  6. Discover ways to support the community and make positive contributions to the school.
  7. Make decisions that will promote a positive and safe learning environment.
  8. Improve home/school communication and relationships.

 

STUDENT COUNCIL/STUDENT GOVERNMENT:

The Student Council of AEL is a body of student representatives from each grade. The purpose of the Student Council is to represent student voice enabling students to contribute to the improvement of school operations, relationships, understanding and cooperation between the student body and the school administration.

 

The requirements to become a member of the Student Council were shared with all four grades at our fall student-led town hall. All students may submit the reasons why they would like to serve on the Student Council by the first week in January.

 

The Student Council positions are:

  • Senior Representative
  • Junior Representative
  • Sophomore Representative
  • Freshman Representative
